Income Tax is Theft

In previous posts, I’ve written at length about several alternatives to the overbearing tax code that exists in the United States today. While there are several directions the nation could go to fund government functions, one thing is certain…the income tax must go. I say this not only for economic reasons, but for philosophical and moral reasons as well. Read On…

Unions and Republicans on the same side?

obamacare

President Obama’s administration has been hard at work defending Obamacare from the Republicans’ voracious attacks.  Defund Obamacare has been their battle cry, and many are willing to shut down the government to prevent the law from taking effect.  The administration, aided by its cronies and big media, has fought hard to cover up the shortcomings of the law, and make the republicans out to be mean, old, rich white men who don’t want to spend a dime on the common man’s well being.  But then the administration was blasted from an unexpected quarter, one it can ill afford as an enemy. How the 16th and 17th Amendments Ushered the Era of Big Government

preamble-main_full

Two things were required to create a huge, centralized federal government.  First was the need to fund a massive administration.  Secondly, there needed to be the political will to usurp power from both the citizenry and the states.  With the passage of the 16th and 17th Amendments, the big government progressives got their wish. A Bailout for the Publishing Industry?

JPSaveOurBooks_NYTBR NEWLIST.indd

Most people have heard of James Patterson, or at the very least, recognize the titles of many of his books… “Along Came a Spider”, “Alex Cross, Run”, and others.  What you may not have heard is that Patterson has begun an ad campaign aimed at a bailout of the publishing and book industry.  Citing bookstore closings and the consolidation of publishers, the ads leave one to believe that the digital revolution in publishing will result in an America devoid of classics like “The Catcher in the Rye” and “The Sun Also Rises.” Read On…

Destroying success with Crony Capitalism

rawmilk

Every administration likes to brag about how many jobs it created.  This is a trend I have observed throughout my entire life.  In recent years, we have seen the politicians stretch the truth to take credit for job growth, with the pinnacle of this trend being President Obama, who takes credit for any job created during his tenure in office.  What no administration like to talk about, though, is the jobs it has destroyed. Time for the IRS to go

irs_logo

By now, I’m sure everyone has heard about the IRS targeting scandal.  I have heard many theories as to why this targeting occurred.  Some have claimed that the Cincinnati IRS office was simply overworked, and the words “Tea Party” and “Patriot” were simply words used to filter through hundreds of 501(c) applications.  Some have suggested the IRS was trying to win favor with the Obama administration.  Still another theory is that this was ordered by the President or his advisors to try to marginalize the groups that bested the Democrats in the 2010 midterm elections. The Neutral Tax

irs_logo

The past few weeks have been very busy writing book two in the FreedomRedux series, Birth of the Republic.  One of the issues that I had to deal with in the novel was a tax structure for the new nation.  I think we can all agree that what the United States has right now is not working.  The current system is bloated, inefficient, and a drag on the economy.  Elected representatives in Washington D.C. have consistently expanded the tax code over time in an attempt to micromanage the economy and solicit campaign donations and political favors from those receiving preferential treatment under the code. Why the Fiscal Cliff was the better option

fiscal cliff

Three hours before the midnight deadline on January 1, the Senate agreed to a deal to avert the fiscal cliff. The Senate version passed two hours after the deadline, and the House of Representatives approved the deal 21 hours later. The government technically went “over the cliff,” since the final details weren’t hashed out until after the beginning of the New Year, but the changes incorporated in the deal will be backdated to January 1. Senators and Congressmen from both parties patted each other on the back and thumped their chests to say what a great job on such a grand bargain. Not surprisingly, the markets loved it, with the Dow soaring over 200 points the following day. Read On…

Escape to Freedom has been sent to beta readers

Hello!  This post is going to be short and to the point.  I am happy to announce that the manuscript for Escape to Freedom is complete and is currently in the hands of my beta-readers.  Once I get the manuscripts back from the beta-readers, I will review any suggestions for improvement they have made, implement suggestions I like, and then we are off to the final round of editing from my editor.  Once that is complete, we are off to the publisher!  It will be tight, but I should have the novel on store shelves by Christmas…AWESOME!
